Your MP

Today you are going to find out about some MPs.

Follow the instructions

A. Who are in the pictures? What was their job before being a politician?

Do you need to have a respectable job to be a politician? What do you think?

Are there any politicians like this in your country?

Think of an MP you have heard of and find out more about him or her. Select three interesting facts to tell other people.

Research women MPs. How many are there at the moment? How many are ministers? Who was the first woman MP and when was she in Parliament?

B. What did you find out about policies of different parties?

Do you vote? Would you like to vote? Why do you think so many young people do not vote?

1. Who are the MPs for the local area who represent the following parties:

Conservatives

Labour

Liberal Democrats

UK Independence Party

Green Party

BNP (What does this stand for)

Get a picture of the politician who represents each party?

2. Where are their offices in the local area?

3. What do you think are the most important things for you/your future?

Think about education, health, immigration, transport, CO2(environment), tax, nuclear weapons,
crime, care for old people, other things which young people would vote for

4. What questions would you like to ask politicians? Think of 5 questions

WATCH THE VIDEO....what is important to these two young politicians?

5. Work with a partner

Decide on a name of a political party. Think about what your party wants to do for:
education, health, immigration, transport, CO2(environment), tax, nuclear weapons,
crime, care for old people, other things which young people would vote for

6. Use microsoft word/publisher to write up a list of all the things which are important. Write your ideas in full sentences. Choose a cool font and some images which will help you deliver your message.

C. Each party will talk about their policies.

You can then ask them your questions
